Online Movie Rentals

Online Movie Rentals Have Changed The Face Of Watching Movies At Home

These days, the Internet has allowed people to live much more convenient lives, simplifying everything from shopping to dating and now, offering online movie rentals. You can now rent and watch movies entirely from the comfort of your own home, without ever leaving your house at all if you choose. This is particularly great news for those of you who enjoy renting numerous movies.

How Does It Work?

To rent movies in the traditional manner, you had to get in your car, drive a few miles away to your local movie rental store, shuffle through the aisles looking for a good movie to catch your eye, wait in line at the checkout stand and then drive back home. And when you finished watching the movie, you had to remember to return the movie on time or face stiff penalty fees. Then you had to get in your car and drive all the way back to the store just to return the movie.

Now, with the advent of online movie rentals, all you have to do is log on to a movie rental website like Blockbuster Online, Netflix or Intelliflix, select all the movies you ever want to see, place them into your "to watch" list, and then start receiving DVD’s steadily in a day or so. Watching movies has never been so easy with the services provided by these online movie rental services.

Pricing Structure

One of the best features of online movie rentals is the pricing structure. If you walk into a physical movie rental store, you can typically expect to shell out $5-6 per movie. Online movie rental services have somewhat different pricing plans, but one of the most popular plans is the 3 DVD’s out-at-a-time plan, which most services offer. You can typically expect to pay about $17-18 per month for this plan.

download netflix moviesThe plan allows you to have 3 movies rented out at any given time. But when you are finished watching one, you simply stick it in your mailbox in one of the prepaid return envelopes, and the next movie on your wishlist is sent to you within a day or two. Think about it: if you watch just 3 movies per month, you already break even financially, and if you rent more, you come out way ahead. You can have 3 DVD’s out at one time, but there’s no limit to how many movies you can actually watch per month if you watch and return each movie quickly. This is not to mention saving the hassle of not having to remember to return movies on time and drive back to the rental store to drop them off.

Special Benefits

Some online movie rental services offer special unique benefits and perks. For example, Blockbuster Online offers an outstanding benefit where they send you 2 free rental coupons per month to your email, which means you get even more value for your money. This feature is particularly beneficial if you love to rent and play video games. Video game rentals are usually priced around $8-9 in the stores, but you can use these free coupons to rent out these video games, at great savings.

Future Projection

If you love to watch movies, there is simply no better way to go than using these online movie rental services. If you’re hesitant about it, just know that most of them offer a free trial period. Simply sign up for the free trial, use it for 2 weeks or so and if you’re not satisfied, simply cancel your account and pay nothing. There are over 15 million people now signed up with these online movie rental services and experts project these numbers to double in the next year or two. Once you get a taste of online movie rentals, no doubt you’ll want to count yourself among that number!

Online Movie Rental And The One Billionth Movie For Netflix: Putting It In Perspective

Online movie rental is popular. Like any service or product that sells a one billionth unit one must assume that it is valued, that the quality is high, and that customers are satisfied or it would not have reached such a mark. Indeed, the exclusive one billion club includes some pretty impressive members and in many cases members have had to endure for many years to attain membership.

In February 2007, Netflix, the founding online movie rental service, delivered its one billionth DVD. This was just beyond seven and half years after their initial offering in September 1999. Certainly, this was a milestone to celebrate for Netflix and one that reflects well upon the popularity of the service but how does it stack up to the achievements of other products and services which have attained this status?

One company that also recently hit the billion mark is Casio. In January of 2007, Casio sold its one billionth calculator. Impressive, however it took Casio approximately fifty years to reach this milestone. In 2049, when the online movie rental pioneer recognizes its fiftieth year, the 7 billion mark could be realized even if growth does not escalate. Will Netflix still be around? If it is, it will probably be a bit different, but it’s flexibility in adapting its service in response to changing technologies is a positive sign. The first step in moving toward electronic versus mail delivery was initiated earlier this year.

Computers are probably considered one of the biggest product introductions into the market during the past century. The growth of the internet was explosive in the 1990’s. However, it wasn’t until approximately 25 years after the introduction of personal computers that the one billionth unit was shipped back in 2002; and this was a worldwide market. Likewise, despite humble beginnings way back in 1969 the internet experienced its billionth user, worldwide, in December 2005; nearly 36 years later. The Netflix online movie rental service is a more local service; providing classic, indie, and new release films for an audience based in the US. Of course, all of this could change as electronic delivery takes hold in coming years; could Netflix become an international player?

netflix reviewCertainly, when one imagines "billions" being sold, the name McDonald’s is bound to crop up. We all know that many billions have been served but how long did it take them to reach their first billion? It appears that it took approximately 15 years after their introduction to achieve this status. At the time of course, McDonald’s was not the mega international corporation that it is now. In addition, families ate most of their meals at home in the early years of the fast food icon. Perhaps McDonalds and similar services played a role in changing how Americans dine; taking them out of the home for nearly half of their meals. This change certainly played a role in hitting the billion mark. Likewise, it would seem that online movie rental services are also changing how we obtain and view movies; first from the comfort of our homes and now on demand through electronic delivery.

Global markets certainly increase the likelihood of attaining the one billion mark and getting there fast. Mobile phones, probably more than any other product, have taken the world by storm in the past fifteen years or so. Clearly mobile phones are used globally. In addition, these devices perform a wide range of tasks that make them nearly indispensable in the modern world. From communication and entertainment to connectivity and personal assistant types of functions, mobile phones are multi-tasking wonders. It is estimated that at least one billion mobile phones were shipped in 2006 alone.

Apple’s iTunes has experienced similar success. After only three years in operation the service served up its one billionth download in Feburary 2006.

Online movie rental is not currently a global service like iTunes or mobile phones. Could this change? Perhaps. Certainly, iTunes has altered the way many people enjoy their music and mobile phones have changed the way we do business and stay in touch with others. Likewise, online movie rental appears to be gradually changing the way we enjoy movies. Perhaps recent changes to implement improved delivery will be the key to matching the success of mobile phones and the music downloads of iTunes.

Netflix TV Box – Are Movie Downloads the Furture?

February 11th, 2009 admin No comments

Are Movie Downloads A Better Choice?

If you compare the movie retrieval process today to what it was like 15 years ago, there are a lot of improvements and changes. Back then, if you wanted to buy a movie, you had to go to the store and buy a VHS tape. If you wanted to rent a movie, you had to go to a rental store and rent a VHS tape for a couple of days and then return it. There were very few options. Also, if the rental store didn’t have the movie, you couldn’t watch it, and there were plenty of movies the rental store didn’t have.

Today there are so many different choices. VHS tapes are no longer the way to go. Now we watch DVDs. If you want to buy a DVD, you can go to the store or shop online. You can also find many older movies that are now available on DVD. If you want to rent a DVD, you can go to the rental store, which is usually just blockbuster. I doubt you could find many if any of the old mom and pop rental stores that use to make up the majority of rental stores. You can rent them from Blockbuster and keep them for a while longer. They say there are no late fees, but if you keep a DVD for too long, they will just charge you for the DVD.

roku netflix reviewAnother choice in renting is through Netflix or Blockbusters mail order process. You can subscribe to the program of either company, pay a monthly fee, receive DVDs in the mail, and mail them back when you are finished. When they receive the DVD you mailed back, they will send the next movie on your list. You can subscribe to get 1 DVD at a time, 2 at a time, or more. Blockbuster even allows you to return the DVD right to the store if you want. This is a great option for those who don’t want to have to drive out to the rental store all the time.

One problem with this type of renting is that if you only want to rent a movie on occasion, you have to wait for it to come in the mail, or if you don’t have any movies you feel like watching, you get sent a movie your not interested in and still have to pay the bill. This is where another renting option comes in, movie downloading. With programs like Cinema Now, you can download any movie you want that is available at your convenience. You don’t have to wait for it to come in the mail and you don’t have to drive anywhere to get it.

Are movie downloads a better choice? They are for a certain person. If you like to watch movies at your disposal, don’t like waiting for the mail or driving anywhere, and watch movies a lot, getting a service like this is great. If you don’t rent movies often, you can still rent downloads from Amazon only when you want to. If you are interested in learning more about either of these services, click the link below.

Online Movie Rental – Netflix TV Box

Online Movie Rental: Finding The Movies You Never Even Knew You Wanted

For countless years, consumers would wander into the local video store in search of movies to take home. For some, selecting a movie was a process which often ended in disappointment. Guided by the words of a handful of movie critics or a paragraph written on the film covers sitting on display, there was uncertainty unless the selection was based on movies the viewer had already seen at the theaters or on television.

For others, the local video store seldom offered the selection that they craved. These viewers knew what they wanted; from indie films or anime to spiritual based offerings or Sci-Fi, but with a total selection of 10,000 to 15,000 titles the likelihood of finding a movie suited to their tastes each week was remote.

Netflix TV Box

For movie fans there had to be a better way; a way to have a broader selection and a method of discovering movies that had the potential of becoming favorites.

Then in 1999, Netflix rolled out their online movie rental subscription service and movie selection has never been the same. Without the constraints of walls and floor space, an online movie rental service is capable of offering any DVD made. For Netflix customers, this translates into over 70,000 titles to choose from among hundreds of genres and subcategories of films.

netflix pricesWith online movie rental the choices suddenly expanded from basic drama, comedy, action, and Sci-Fi to selections as specific as British Comedy, Russian Foreign Films, African-American Documentaries, Latin Pop, or Belly Dancing Whether a viewer simply wants to experiment and expand their horizons or knows exactly what they want, the Netflix library should offer much greater satisfaction.

Netflix Special Offers

With the vast selection however, comes a tough choice for those who don’t spend their time staying in-the-know about every new movie release. Here is where some of the true advantages to the Netflix online movie rental service come in to play.

As customers view movies with Netflix, they provide ratings/reviews online. Users can add Friends with similar tastes as well as refer to critics reviews. With a database that is currently 1.5 billion reviews strong, there are good statistics to guide users in making their movie selections. The Netflix online movie service will also guide users by examining their own rental and review history to predict what other choices will be to their liking.

Certainly, the options for movie fans have expanded with the introduction of online movie rental services. With a vastly expanded selection of films and services to assist users in discovering movies they never even knew they wanted, Netflix has moved consumers on to the next level of home entertainment.

Download Netflix Movies

February 10th, 2009 admin No comments

Movie Downloads Go Mainstream

Several years ago movies were available on the internet via peer-to-peer file sharing sites. Of course, issues of piracy and the risk of exposure to viruses prevented the average consumer from considering movie downloads a viable option however. More legitimate movie downloads came along a bit later in the form of Movielink and CinemaNow, but the selection was limited, download technology was a bit slow, and the equipment in the homes of most consumers made watching the films undesirable. For these reasons, movie downloads for the most part remained the domain of early adopters rather than the mainstream public.

Online movie rental services such as Netflix and Blockbuster have been more prominent forces in the home entertainment industry due to their much larger selection of movies. The primary drawback for such movie rental services was the delay between choosing the movie and receiving it in the mail a day or two later for viewing. However, the distinction between movie downloads, with their immediate gratification and convenience, and the world of online movie rentals, with their vast libraries of movie and television show titles, became blurred in 2007; benefiting the movie watching public.

Due to upgrades in how online movie rental services deliver their product, movie downloads appear to be going mainstream. In January 2007, online movie rental pioneer, Netflix announced they would begin offering customers the option of streaming movies to their PC although the availability of titles would be phased in over time. Within six months, Netflix announced that 5 million movies had been viewed using this download feature. The number of movies available to customers for downloading continued to increase and only six weeks later the number of movies viewed online had doubled to 10 million. Clearly, the popularity of downloading was catching hold within the average household.

netflix streaming moviesIn August 2007, Blockbuster the other major name in video rental, both online and off, announced that they had purchased Movielink. A joint venture between five major Hollywood movie studios, Movielink offered titles for rental or purchase and had provided early adopters movies for download to PC and portable devices. With the recent acquisition of Movielink, it is anticipated that movie downloads are soon to be an option with Blockbuster as well.

Certainly the events of 2007 appear to be headed toward a future of movie downloads becoming the preferred method of obtaining movies. If the escalating growth in the popularity of movie downloads evident at Netflix continues it would appear that local video stores will continue to lose market share. Similarly it would seem that mail delivery of rentals will begin to abate as well as downloading goes mainstream.

Netflix TV Box – The Future Of Online Movie Rental

February 1st, 2009 admin No comments

The Future Of Online Movie Rental

Since 1999, movie fans have had the luxury of selecting movies for viewing from the comfort of their home computer and then receiving them at their door through the mail.
Online movie rental services allow users a huge selection and affordable prices as well as convenience. Perhaps the only drawback to these services has been the wait between returning movies and receiving the next ones in the queue.

It appears that those movie fans who prefer more immediate gratification may soon see the method of movie delivery begin shifting in their favor. Netflix has announced on their website that they are beginning to phase in electronic delivery of movies to their subscribers. Switching service over to internet delivery exclusively will take a number of years as the online movie rental service has over 70,000 titles to its credit and the readiness of many consumers and the film industry is still a step behind. However, some current subscribers will begin seeing at least 1,000 titles available for immediate viewing in January 2007 with additional subscribers having the service added each week through the end of June 2007.

In its infancy, the new Netflix "Watch Now" feature will allow viewing of movies on personal computers/laptops that have a high speed connection and a Microsoft Windows operating system. However, the company reports that the future goal is to make their movies available on all internet connected screens; for instance on cell phones, iPods and computers with Apple OS.

The electronic delivery offered by Netflix offers some advantages over many download services as it is a real-time playback technology and allows viewers to begin viewing films as they are received versus waiting for the download to occur. Although meeting the demand for greater immediacy is a primary advantage to the Netflix "Watch Now" option, some convenience features will be welcomed by subscribers as well. After a 60 second browser applet installation, subscribers will even be able to pause and move forward within films using a simple position bar, giving viewers greater control.

roku netflix reviewCurrent subscribers to the Netflix online movie rental service will have access to view up to 48 hours of films per month on the internet streaming service based on the plan in which they participate; the more films per month included in their plan, the more streamed movies they will be able to view. There is no additional charge for viewing streamed movies versus those delivered through the traditional mail method.

Obviously, this news offers current Netflix customers a great new option for getting movies delivered into their home. For those who aren’t current customers it certainly demonstrates that the future of online movie rental is firmly headed in the direction of electronic delivery.

Netflix Review and Service

January 26th, 2009 admin No comments

Netflix: Not Just About Renting Dvds Anymore

As the leader and innovator in online DVD rental since 1997, pretty much everyone in the U.S. knows about Netflix. They know that Netflix offers a huge selection of movies from every genre and can get them delivered to their door within a day at an affordable price. With over one million DVDs being mailed out daily, Netflix is the premier provider of online DVD rental in this country.

However, as Netflix continues to evolve and adapt to the wants and needs of consumers, it has taken on new roles within the entertainment industry as well. Red Envelope Entertainment, a recent expansion of Netflix, is taking the company into the realm of movie distribution and, in some cases, production of original movie content. By working to acquire and fund films that might otherwise be available only in small theatrical houses, Netflix can now actively increase the variety of films available to the broader movie viewing public. To date, Netflix has been the distributor of at least 100 indie and foreign films that might have otherwise gone unnoticed by the masses.

With Netflix in the role of movie distributor, there are benefits to the movie viewing public and for filmmakers as well. Not only will there be a wider variety of movies for viewers to select from but the quality of the offerings should also be enhanced as the movies Netflix chooses to either distribute or produce will be those which match up with the viewing interests of consumers.

netflix service, netflix tv boxAs Netflix customers view movies, they can go online and rate/review those that they have seen. The rate of participation in the movie review process is high as Netflix now has billions of reviews from which to pull their information on viewer preferences. The Netflix review system has consistently received high praise for it’s accuracy in pinpointing viewer preferences based on the data collected. By using this data to determine what movies to distribute, the end result will be greater availability of movies that viewers want to see versus those that simply have the backing of a major studio.

For filmmakers, Netflix can provide real opportunity for new talent or an outlet for the types of films that have an audience outside of that which is typically targeted by the major studios. Netflix is able to offer the visibility and mass distribution that can mean the difference between obscurity and success. The process can be as simple as submitting a film to the Netflix site for consideration.

It would appear that the Netflix foray into movie distribution should provide a richer selection of entertainment. In addition, this seems to signal that the evolution of Netflix is not complete and its influence in the entertainment industry will continue to grow.
