4 Stars Singin in the Rain
Singin in the Rain is a real classic!

You find yourself humming tunes from

the movie for days after watching it.

The movie is enjoyable and has no

violence or profanity.

5 Stars A timeless film, fun and entertaining for everyone
We first watched this movie as a family about 5 years ago, and Donald O’Connor cracked my son up while Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds entranced my daughter. Now, 5 years later, we purchased the movie for the holidays, and everyone loved it just as much again. We had to repeat “Make ‘Em Laugh” a couple of times, and the music and dancing dazzled everyone throughout. The story is fun, too. A classic movie with a vibrancy and joy that transmits cleanly through time to all ages. What great fun!

5 Stars Singing in the rain, never be repeated
This is a realy good classic. And wonderful restored I must say.

I just like the music and the performance of Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Connor. This movie has nearly everything you would expect

from a movie like this. The classic scene of course never repeated when

Gene starts to dance in the puddles and the policeman is watching him …

5 Stars This wonderful picture will make you wanna sing…
Who doesn’t know the words to the song `Singin’ in the Rain’? I mean, seriously, even if you have yet to see the movie I’m sure you could sing that song word for word right now.

Go ahead; I’ll wait.

The thing is that I too had never seen this movie yet knew all those words and it made me question just why it was that I never sat down to watch this beloved musical. I am not really a huge musical lover, but then again, I’ve never been one to disregard a movie because of genre before. I’ll watch anything at least once. So, when this came on TCM a few months ago I just had to watch it. I got everything ready for `movie night’ (the drinks, the friends, the snacks) and I settled in to watch what has steadily been considered one of the top ten movies of all time.

I loved it!

Everything about this movie fits so perfectly into one another. The music is divine, the performances are stellar, the set pieces are delicious and the script is fun, fresh and wholly entertaining. There is not a single misstep here. It’s not the best movie of all time, but it works magic with every fiber of its being.

The film tells of film star Don Lockwood as he struggles to transition himself from `silent’ film star to `talkie’ film star. His frequent costar and rumored lover Lina Lamont is a selfish and spoiled diva whose voice is just not suited for film, so a young and talented singer named Kathy Selden is hired to dub her voice for their upcoming film. When Don falls in love with Kathy things get out of hand. Lina is furious and it becomes apparent that their love affair could sink the whole picture.

Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor make a wonderful team here, feeding off each others energy to create some of the most impressive and widely acclaimed dance numbers in musical history. Solo they are spectacular, but together they are even better; and what is so awesome is that when Debbie Reynolds (who is so refreshingly spunky here) jumps in she makes the perfect pair into a vibrant threesome. The real scene stealer though is Jean Hagen. She may not sing or dance but she acts her tail off, delivering an iconic comedic performance that will have you rolling in your seats.

I haven’t had this much fun watching a movie in a long time (I tend to prefer the dramatic and depressing films, so this was a nice change of pace). I’ve since seen the film again and loved it just as much if not more the second time around. This is a film designed to make you smile, and is succeeds at doing just that.

5 Stars Best Movie Ever Made
It is on the top of my very long movies enjoyed list. Its got it all. If you haven’t seen this, you really need to.

Confessions of a Shopaholic

A COLLEGE GRAD LANDS A JOB AS A FINANCIAL JOURNALIST IN NEW YORK CITY TO SUPPORT WHERE SHE NURTURES HER SHOPPING ADDICTION AND FALLS FOR A WEALTHY ENTREPRENEUR.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Avoid
This was quite a disappointment. Take the typical I know nothing about a complex business but thus become a genius attitude and usually it cannot fail to provide some great laughs. However this is a real failure. It is embarrassing and the acting is bad, especially Isla Fisher.

2 Stars If You Took “Sex and the City”
And removed all the sex, friendship, and fun, this is what would be left. Basically it’s just a gorgeous girl who has an orgy with labels and credit cards. So why did I give this two stars instead of one? Simply put, Isla Fisher is freaking gorgeous (how Borat got her is beyond me). She easily beats Amy Adams as the hottest redhead in Hollywood (no meagre feat, I might add), and quite frankly, she is so beautiful to watch that I can almost look past the nonexistent script and cardboard performances. Almost. Even with such eyecandy I still want a decent story (I’m not asking for “Citizen Kane” here people. “The Devil Wears Prada” had amazing actors, a great storyline, and gorgeous scenery and wasn’t too far away from the concept being presented here but was light years beyond it in presentation). Chick-lit can be witty and interesting, and it’s an insult to women to present subpar stories and expect them to eat it up simply because Hollywood believe that it has figured out the female genome for viewing. It’s like all of those stupid “Van Wilder” films which are supposed to appeal to men because drinking, partying, goofy off, and hot chicks are presented. Writers need to not be so lazy and actually come up with real thoughtout concepts instead of tired films based on beer and mall ads.

Okay, the story: beautiful Isla is deeply in debt, living with an equally broke roommate who looks exactly like Katy Perry, comes from an overly frugal family which is why she overcompensates with constant shopping, and now finds herself out of a job. She dreams of working at the top fashion magazine in NYC (really, doesn’t Hollywood believe that women have any other hopes and dreams beyond writing about insanely priced clothing made by gay designers who insist that every woman look like a 12 year old boy? I have to ask), and is on her way to interview when she is (literally) seduced by a scarf. Her cards are maxed out and she seeks extra cash at the local hot dog stand where she runs into a British hottie. She tells him a lie about her sick aunt needing the scarf and he generously gives her the money and a bit of a lecture about the worth of things. Long story short, she buys the scarf and goes to the interview where, lo and beyond, the fashion position is taken but a spot in the financial sister mag is open (oh what irony!). What is our girl to do? Of course she goes to the interview where guess who is her prospective boss but generous Brit! She tries to b.s. her way through, but obviously fails. Upset, she stays up all night drinking with her roommate and writes two letters, one to the fashion mag trying to show how bright she is and the other to our beloved Brit telling him what a twit he was. I wouldn’t tell you what happens, but you can probably guess or else the film would end here.

Along the way our lovely Isla finds herself in almost cartoon-esque situations and slowly but surely discovers what is truly valuable in life. One of the most improbable things for me about this movie was the triangle between Isla, the Brit, and some bland blonde chick who worked for the fashion mag. I’m sorry, but given the choice between gorgeous and irresistable Isla and some lifeless stick figure, is there even a debate? I never felt as if the blonde had any chance (then again, who would against Isla? Have I mentioned how beautiful she is?). I thought perhaps I wasn’t the target audience so I watched this with my stepdaughter and niece and they both weren’t too crazy about this film either. Script writers need to leave the “Sex and the City” concept alone. It worked great for that programme, but that was lightening in the bottle. The magic will not be recaptured no matter how many gorgeous women they show walking and shopping in designer stores up and down the streets of New York. I’m hoping that the antimateralistic message will catch on in these trying economic times, but I suspect that all this film will inspire is for more women to go to their local salons in an attempt to achieve Ms. Fisher’s glorious mane. Decent effort but it sadly fell flat.

2 Stars Hohum Comedy Doesn’t Elicit Many Laughs
“Confessions of a Shopaholic” is a broad comedy about consumerism gone mad — hardly a timely movie in an economic environment in which belts are being tightened. Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) has finally reached the outer limits of her credit cards and owes $16,000. To pay for her elaborate wardrobe, she has to get a job. Her dream job is a position at New York’s top fashion magazine, “Alette,” but she has to settle for a desk at “Successful Saving,” a struggling financial magazine owned by the same publishing company. Dogged by a persistent debt collector (Robert Stanton), Becky becomes the unlikely author of a column on saving money. Her unconventional outlook on money matters attracts the approval of her boss (Hugh Dancy), and a contrived romance results.

Though Ms. Fisher has charm, the movie looks like remnants of other, better comedies have been sewn together into a patchwork quilt. There are especially large “borrowings” from “Legally Blonde” and “The Devil Wears Prada.” John Goodman, Joan Cusack, and Kristen Scott Thomas are wasted in small roles as Becky’s father, mother, and editor of “Alette,” respectively. Bonus DVD and Blu-ray extras include bloopers, deleted scenes, and the music video “Stuck With Each Other” by Shontelle featuring Akon.

1 Star This only applies if you read the books….
If you haven’t read the books, you might enjoy this for the light & romantic chick flick that it is. However, I’d recommend just buying the books instead. They are quick reads, you can be done each in a day.

I was incredibly disappointed at the movie adaptation,. They compiled elements from Confessions of a Shopaholic, Shopaholic takes Manhatten and Shopaholic ties the Knot, thereby eliminating any sequel possibility. Especially since the movie took place in Manhatten, so she couldn’t very well “take it” in the next book. I reread those three books after watching the movie (because I was amazed at the differences) when I realized how much got changed around. I guess it was good though, because it didn’t really deserve a sequel.

**possibly spoiler alert**

Also, in the movie they seemed to take out any soul that the main character had. In the book, she does all these crazy things, but when it’s needed she steps up and helps her neighbors. In the movie, she has to choose between two dresses, and ends up not picking the bridesmaid dress for Suze’s wedding. That part is what bugged me the most.

5 Stars Love this movie!
I don’t typically buy that many movies, but I just had to have this one! I saw it in the theatre in February and instantly fell in love. It’s a great movie, but it’s not the usual cookie-cutter type of chick-flick that’s focused on the boy-girl relationship dynamic. It’s from a different angle (the shopping angle) and that makes it a refreshingly new movie.

So good, it made me start reading the book it was based on. So, I can’t say if it’s a good representation of the book.

But as a separate movie – it was fabulous! Just like Isla Fisher’s wardrobe!

Friends The Complete First Season

August 4th, 2009 admin No comments

Friends The Complete First Season

In addition to scoring one of the biggest surprise hits in television history, NBC generated a veritable pop culture phenomenon with its twenty something sitcom smash FRIENDS. Set in New York City, the series chronicled the lives of six best friends as they navigated through the ups and downs of romance and career from the confines of their local coffee shop and some pretty fabulous Manhattan apartments. While the series originally rode to success on the coattails of its Thursday night predecessor SEINFELD, what differentiated FRIENDS from the rash of copycat sitcoms that followed–and made it a bona fide hit in its own right–was the unique chemistry of its fine ensemble cast: Courtney Cox as neurotic clean freak Monica; David Schwimmer as her endearingly hangdog brother Ross; Matt LeBlanc as none-too-bright actor-wannabe Joey Tribbiani; Matthew Perry as sarcastic computer programmer Chandler Bing; Lisa Kudrow as goofy new-age free spirit Phoebe Buffay; and, of course, Jennifer Aniston as reformed spoiled rich girl Rachel Green (whose highly influential fashion sense launched a thousand hairstyles). This collection includes every episode from the popular series’ debut season, which featured guest appearances by George Clooney and Noah Wylie.

5 Stars Friends what can I say
Friends what can I say it was absolutely the best sitcom ever you really thought of them as the friends next door,we all couldn’t wait til Thursday night to see what happens next time after the show went off the air I just had to have the complete series in my collection to be able to watch any time I need a friendly fix.LOL If you missed any of the episodes you can catch up on them on your own time & never miss a beat.

3 Stars mmmm
The service was normal but the item was not in the conditions mentioned. I honestly think the item you sent me was not “like new”

4 Stars why did joey get his own show?
anyone who supported the joey show should be gas chambered. my girl wanted it so i got but while watching it i noticed matt le blanc is a dumbass yea yea he is suppose to be but matt perry is the tru under dog and deserved his own show….but anyways this is ok havent seen the whole thing but know enough that joey is a crappy actor and bad character

1 Star Overrated!
I agree with what other people said. This is a case of a product that is absolutely overrated. God knows why.

The actors, including Aniston, are awful. The jokes are pathetic. The laughs after five minutes are annoying as hell.

Please… I wonder how can something as bad as this was able to carry on for ten years!

To watch an entire season of friends is basically submitting yourself to a stream of stupid jokes, that are not funny under any possible perspective.

Friends is low quality television. To avoid carefully.

5 Stars Very Impressed
Since this was the first time I had purchased anything used from Amazon, I was a little bit skeptical about what condition the product would arrive in… You almost couldn’t tell they were used and everything works great. 5/5 stars for you…

Anchorman The Legend Of Ron Burgundy Unrated Widescreen Edition

August 4th, 2009 admin No comments

Anchorman The Legend Of Ron Burgundy Unrated Widescreen Edition

Will Farrell followed up his star-making vehicle Elf, which matched his fine-tuned comic obliviousness to a sweet sincerity, with a more arrogant variation on the same character: Ron Burgundy, a macho, narcissistic news anchor from the 1970s. Along with his news posse–roving reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd, Clueless), sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner), and dim-bulb weatherman Brick Tamland (Steve Carell, Bruce Almighty)–Burgundy rules the roost in San Diego, fawned upon by groupies and supported by a weary producer (Fred Willard, Best In Show) who tolerates Burgundy’s ego because of good ratings. But when Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate, View from the Top) arrives with ambitions to become an anchor herself, she threatens the male-dominated newsroom. Anchorman has plenty of funny material, but it’s as if Farrell couldn’t decide what he really wanted to mock, and so took smart-ass cracks at everything in sight. Still, there are moments of inspired delirium. –Bret Fetzer

5 Stars THE GREATEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When i watch comedys i look at this movie as the bar for comedies there is alot of movies that make me crack up the hangover,i love you man, knocked up,ect. but this is the only movie that made me fall out of my seat laughing i was embarrassed in the theater i couldnt tell if anybody else was laughing because i was laughing so loud but i bet they were if you like comedy, movies, will ferrell,or being an american you will love this movie it is truly a masterpiece the wake up ron burgundy thing was a huge dissapointment though dont pay extra for it its on youtube so buy the regular and have the best time of your life its better than sex well almost as good as sex buy it i also reccommend kung pow

4 Stars “Oh, I’m in a glass case of emotion!”
This is one of the most hilarious comedies from Will Ferrel and Steve Carell. I don’t care if it looks dumb or it’s not very smart, all I care about is that this film definintely makes me laugh. Carell steals the show as the mildly retarded Brick (”Fantastic!”), while Ferrel and Applegate make an interesting onscreen duo. And let’s not forget some unexpected cameos in the middle of the film.

Watch it, and you’ll be in hysterics. And don’t forget: always drink your scotty scotch scotch!

1 Star Incredibly bad, even for Will Ferrell
This is so bad I don’t want to even waste time trashing it. It is moronic and juvenile. If you like this movie, you should be committed. I like Christina Applegate, but not enough to see this garbage. I’m also disappointed that a legitmate actor like Paul Rudd lowered himself to be in this bomb.

5 Stars THE BEST WILL FERRELL FLICK EVER.
This is the best Will Ferrell Film Ever. The King of Kings. Beautiful. Brutally funny.

4 Stars 60% of the time it’s funny ALL the time
Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) is a man among men. He’s got it all. Good looks, smooth moves, great suits, and the best job in the world as the number one lead Anchorman in San Diego. He even has his own entourage that consists of his fellow newsmen. Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) is the on-scene reporter, as well as a self-proclaimed ladies man. Champ Kind (David Koechner) is the sports analyst and almost a `much too close’ friend of Ron’s. Then there is Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) who is the weatherman and, well, lets just say `not so smart’ guy of the group. They are kings of the news in San Diego, until a Veronica Cornerstone (Christina Applegate) shows up. As Veronica is trying to work her way into the camera lens, the boys are trying to keep her out. They are doing quite well, until one day when Ron has a freak accident, which lets Veronica have center stage.

The first time I saw this was with two of my best friends when I was driving through Texas and stopped for a few days of having fun in San Antonio. For most of the first half of the movie, I was barely laughing, and almost not enjoying the movie. And then about 35% to 50% into the movie, it clicked. I started to get the humor. And then the movie became hysterical. I was in tears on some parts. Now after the DVD came out, I even loved the movie more. From beginning to end, I find the whole movie hilarious. I honestly can understand why some might really hate this movie. The jokes can be very dumb at times. But once you find the humor in how the jokes are delivered, it becomes golden. The things I find myself laughing at the most are how the lines are delivered, or how some of the words are annunciated. The over the top acting also helps out a lot. It’s just VERY silly. The improv lines are great also. When Ron and Veronica are smiling on camera and talking, the sound is muted for the audience in the movie while the credits role, but we as the viewers get to hear them hate on each other such as Ron saying “I’m going to hit you right in the baby maker, yep, right in the ovaries”. The movie has a slew of cameos from some very funny actors as well. Jack Black, Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, and even Seth Rogen (not a funny part at all really, but it’s funny seeing him just be a plain old camera man with like 2 lines).

In the end, if you love this kind of silly comedy, then definitely own this. It never gets old.

P.S. – I own the double disk feature, and have yet to watch “the adventures of Ron Burgundy continue” feature yet. It’s supposedly a ton of extra stuff they cut out from the movie. Enough to make a completely different movie. I fast forwarded through it enough to see there is like a bank heist and everything. So I’ll give it a look-see sometime soon once I get the urge to watch some more Ron Burgundy. Then I’ll just update my review with its review.

X Men Origins Wolverine Two Disc Special Edition Digital Copy

X Men Origins Wolverine Two Disc Special Edition Digital Copy

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Sound and fury
After three movies of amnesia and claw-slashing, Wolverine is actually getting his own movie, all for his own. Sure, some familiar characters appear, but the stage is for him alone.

And it’s neither a horrendous movie nor a good one — just a popcorn collection of explosions and Matrixian fight scenes, linked together by a rather loosely-strung plot that doesn’t have any twists or unexpected events. Hugh Jackman does a simply stellar job as the beclawed titular character and it has some funny moments, but the part of the movie that galvanized me the most was the trailer for “District 9.”

After a century of fighting, James Logan (Jackman) and his savage half-brother Victor (Liev Schreiber) are recruited by a mysterious army officer, William Stryker (Danny Huston), to join his elite mutant squad. Logan is sick of killing, so he tries to have the quiet life with his girlfriend Kayla (Lynn Collins) as a humble logger… until Victor reappears and murders Kayla, as part of a vendetta against his old teammates. Intent on revenge, Logan accepts the offer Stryker gives him — he will accept a horrible and painful procedure that will make him invincible, so he can kill Victor.

With an adamantium skeleton and an instantly-healing body, the newly-renamed Wolverine is invincible — but he soon finds himself on the run not only from his older brother, but from Stryker’s ruthless military forces. Now he must uncover a mysterious “island” that only one mutant has ever escaped from… except there are some other nasty surprises waiting for him there, courtesy of Stryker’s experiments.

By all rights, “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” should have been a far better movie than it is. But the story itself is only so-so — it’s rather straightforward in its narrative without many twists, and the Sabretooth/Wolverine backstory is handled pretty confusingly. It’s only in the last quarter that the movie really acquires that epic comic-book feeling — up until then, it’s a rather bland you-killed-my-master/relative/truelove-REVENGE! tale.

So with a bland plot, they slather on the action — it feels like at least 75% of the movie was written to allow maximum explosions, motorcycle chases, Matrixian wire-fu, and endless claw fights. In fact, the movie is at its best when it has either some really tightly-wound fight scenes (such as the boxing match with The Blob), or a sense of humour (Wolverine accidentally destroys a nice little elderly couple’s bathroom, and walks out repentantly holding their sink).

And then there’s Wolverine himself — he can heal from anything, and his metal skeleton means he can’t even be chopped up. In other words, he’s indestructible. It’s really hard to worry about the guy physically, and “Origins” never gets around to making us fear that he’ll lose anything else.

So it’s a credit to Jackman’s talent that he actually makes us care about Wolverine — roaring, confused, grief-stricken, and slowly being hardened by all the betrayals and lies. And Schreiber does an excellent job as well, especially considering that Sabretooth is as likable as an ingrown nail — he actually almost makes us feel sorry for his character now and then. Too bad we never, uh, really figure out why he wants to kill his brother.

And there’s a lot of great lesser roles as well — Collins does a decent job considering her total lack of chemistry with Jackman, while the coldly contemptuous Daniel Henney, kindly will.i.am, charming gambler Kitsch and puckish Dominic Monaghan all do great jobs with their smaller-scale roles. Huston is okay, but he never quite seems scary or fanatical enough.

“X-Men Origins: Wolverine” has enough explosions, stunts and elaborate aerial fight scenes to shame most blockbusters, but it’s lacking heart and plot. The thing that makes it worth watching: the actors.

5 Stars Best Movie Ever!!
I have seen this movie four times. I haven’t seen the other X-Men movies or read the comic books so I can’t rate it on authenticity. All I can say is OH MY GOD! Logan, Gambit, and Dead Pool are sooooooo hot it’s scary. Girls, don’t miss this one! And it even has a great plot!

5 Stars Wolverine-Proper review
Okay, so everybody is all shook up about the fact that it didn’t stay so true to the comic books. News flash for ya-They RARELY do. It’s an amazing film with great special effects and amazing acting. The film caused an uproar with a few of my friends because Gambit didn’t have the correct accent, so what? THe film was made for people to watch and enjoy it, not be critized to the extent where people just don’t want to talk about because people have been so harsh about it. What I really enjoyed, was that after the credits, they set it up for the next one, when Wolverine is to have his big fight with the Japaneese dude.

Another thing, I read a review on here where someone said that Storm wasn’t in it, she was. You just weren’t looking hard enough. She was in the cages by where Scott Summers was and also in the scene where he is leading them out to the helicopter.

What I have enjoyed doing after seeing this film, twice, is watching the cartoon series X-Men:Evolution, it gives some of the background for most of the characters in the film. Don’t miss out on one of the best summer films yet, not counting Star Trek.

5 Stars My review of ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine”.
Okay, first of all let me explain my rating. I gave it 5 stars based on the creativity of the movie. However, based on how loyal it is to the comics, I would give it a 1. In the movie James Howlett (Wolverine/Logan) is actually the son of his mother’s gardener, Mr. Logan, and not Mr. Howlett. In the movie they also make Dog Logan into Victor Creed/Sabretooth. So Sabretooth is Wolverine’s half-brother in the movie. At first Victor and James are the best of friends, then after about 100 years of physically staying in their late 30’s early 40’s, the two brothers go their own way after doing a special operation with Wraith, Bradley/Bolt, Deadpool, a very well built blob, and crazy facist extroidernair, Stryker. So Wolverine quits his dayjob and settles down with his new girlfriend Silverfox. Note: Silverfox doesn’t have the regenerating power that she did in the comics. He also has a new job working for a lumber company. After a while Stryker and Agent Zero track down Wolverine and recruit him for a new “job”. Job meaning “Oh nothing special. We’re just going to pump a few pounds of an indestructable metal alloy into your bones which may cause you to die and get constantly harassed by Ian McKellen in the future”. Well the operation is a success, Wolverine gets away from Stryker and lays low with a nice old couple for a while. Then Agent Zero finds Wolverine, kills Uncle Ben and Aunt May (Whoops, wrong movie), and does the whole incredibly expensive helicopter vs roadhog fight scene. Wolverine wins. Duh! Wolverine finds Wraith, convinces him to find Stryker for revenge, fights fat Blob for information, and goes to New Orleans to find everybodies favorite Ragin’ Cajun. In the N-O Wolverine finds Remy Lebeau/Gambit, has a big fight scene with him, and eventually gets Gambit on his side. Question: If Wolverine was in the alley right behind the casino, why did Gambit run ten blocks to fight him? So any way Gambit uses his Aeroplane to fly Wolverine to Stryker’s private reso-uh, I mean island, fights Deadpool/Weapon XI with the help of Victor Creed, Gambit finally shows up, blah blah blah, end credits. Note: Young X-Men we get to see in the movie are Scott Summers/Cyclops, and Emma Frost/White Queen in a B cup rather than her famous DDD cup (yes they are). However the Nazi bastards at 20th Century Fox cut out Storm. Hope you enjoyed the review and that you’ll enjoy the movie. Love the tall, cane walking, red headed Malcolm.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Terrific
You can not beat Rosalind Russell in this film she is a powerhouse with an amazing supporting cast! The only thing is I would have choosen a singer to dub her with a higher voice. I like Peters more than Lupone so that explains that. This movie takes you on a wonderful two and a half hour ride. This musical works because it is solid from start to finish. Ms. Wood is constantly complementing the domineering mother. The different periods of the ride are all equally entertaining. No wonder this story keeps getting told on stage on Broadway, it is truly great. Thank you for getting it right Hollywood with the most talented Russell, i just love her. No one like her today or ever in my opinion!

3 Stars Sophisticated musical lacks zip
An unusually sophisticated musical based on the memoirs of striptease artiste Gypsy Rose Lee. Well acted by Rosalind Russell, Karl Malden, and Natalie Wood but it lacks zip – the fake looking sets don’t help, neither does Rosalind Russell’s obvious lip synching – and when you see Gypsy Rose Lee’s idea of stripping in the latter part of the film you will wonder what all the fuss was about.

5 Stars Great Movie!
This is one of my favorite movies! Natalie Wood is great! A must see if you enjoy great Hollywood Musicals!

5 Stars Love it!
I was excited to get Gypsy because I hadn’t seen it in over 10 years! I received it within 3 days and I watched it right away. It was in great condition and still the great movie I remember it to be. That’s all I have to say and now I’m going to go watch it again. Have a good one!

5 Stars One of the classics
I loved this movie when it came to theaters in the early 1960’s, and I loved it just as much watching it again. This is one of those movies that I will watch again and again.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Wide Screen Top Gun, Collectors Edition
This is a great film and the wide screen edition makes it enjoyable. However, as another reviewer mentions, it does not maximize the screen, but provides only a long narrow view of the film.

One of the best features is the 2nd DVD with producers’ infor and comments. It is very interesting and well worth the time to view it. It provides an even greater appreciation of the film.

Amazon’s service was great.

2 Stars Eh… Not great.
I never understood what all the fuss was about. The characters are not believable, the hero gets cut a vast amount of slack for what would be unacceptable behaviour in any flying school in the world, and what did the girl see in this guy, anyway? Egomaniacs don’t make good pilots, boyfriends or heros. An unrealistic look at a subject that deserved better handling. Strictly for people who think that being cool is all about breaking rules and not caring about others. It’s very 1980’s in attitude, and it shows.

4 Stars The Blu wins
I hadn’t seen this movie in almost 20 years. Whatever passes as story and characters that they put as padding between the flight scenes are so embarassingly formulaic and stupid that I was soon hitting fast forward every time until jets were scrambling again. Apart from the “last fight” scene which is spoiled by terrible missile hit SFXs, the air scenes are stunning in HD. That photography really makes this disc great. That’s my first movie purchase that made me proud of switching to Blu Ray. You’ve GOT to have a serious sound system hooked on your player too.

2 Stars full of themselves
wow this is one of the most homoerotic films ever……The boys play volleyball all in their short shorts with the dog tags flying high….macho macho…..mav goose…iceman come on gay gay gay

5 Stars Still “The Top”
A vivid, Blu-ray rendering of a movie classic. Tom Cruise’s best and still defining role.

The Jacksons An American Dream The Complete Miniseries

Studio: Uni Dist Corp (music) Release Date: 10/18/2002

1 Star shipping
This product took almost two weeks to ship. Why? If they are going to charge my card right away, then it should be shipped right away. I ordered this product one week ago and it still is not shipped. It will be shipped next week. This is not good customer service.

5 Stars RIP Michael Jackson, 1958-2009
I watched this miniseries when it first came to television back in the 1990s. Love him or hate him, this is the time to wish all the best to Michael Jackson and his family. May he rest in peace, but in this nutty world of gossip news and wanting to trash people that cannot defend themselves, it most likely won’t happen. I would definately get this movie if you want to watch a good story about such an iconic family.

5 Stars The Jacksons – WOW!!!
I ordered this DVD a few weeks ago as a gift for my duaghter. We gave it to her a few days before her birthday the night Michael Jackson died. We viewed it over the next three nights and wow! My husband and I saw it when it aired on network television in the early nineties and thought it was great televison and a wonderful, great story then. But now, in the light of the global mourning over the death of Michael Jackson – it is just phenomenal. That family gave a lot to the entertainment industry and to the world. And the world loved them for it. My admiration, thanks and sincere appreciation go out to the Jackson Family and the producers (Jermaine Jackson and Motown Executive Suzanne DePasse were a couple of them) for making this “Amercian Dream” story.

5 Stars the jacksonss – an american dream the complete miniseries
I have enjoyed being able to watch this movie without any commercial breaks or having to watch it as a two-part miniseries. I am very happy with my purchase. thank you

5 Stars Jacksons – The True Story
This powerful movie is a must for all Jackson fans.

Starting from the romance between Katherine and Joe Jackson to the Victory tour of 1985, The Jacksons: An American Dream shows the trials and tribulations that come with fame.

9/10

Man in the Mirror The Michael Jackson Story

July 31st, 2009 admin No comments

Man in the Mirror The Michael Jackson Story

Flex Alexander’s affecting performance in the lead role lifts Man in the Mirror, an account of the troubled, turbulent adult life of Michael Jackson. And a grim, melodramatic, and sometimes way over-the-top tale it is, as the film chronicles the litany of catastrophes visited on Jackson since Thriller turned him into the self-proclaimed King of Pop. It’s all here: the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ horrified reaction to the supposedly blasphemous “Thriller” video (a disclaimer was added at their behest); the filming of the Pepsi commercial during which Jackson’s hair caught on fire; the constant hectoring and bullying by his father, Joseph Jackson, and his subsequent alienation from his family; his many cosmetic surgeries; the debacle that was his marriage to Lisa Marie Presley; the controversial incident when he dangled his newborn son from his Berlin hotel room window; and, of course, the ongoing allegations of child molestation (to their credit, the filmmakers are fairly circumspect about the latter, neither condemning nor exonerating him). Through it all, Alexander plays Jackson as a true innocent, guileless and easily manipulated, wondering how the world can be so wicked (”What’s wrong with love?” is a frequent refrain), and yet essentially kind, likable, and devoted to his fans. Alexander has Jackson’s voice down, as well as some of his dance moves, and if Man in the Mirror contains no actual Jackson songs or realistic performance footage, well, that’s life in the low-budget world of made-for-TV movies (it originally aired in 2004 on VH-1). Man in the Mirror hardly qualifies as great art, but in the end, it’s nothing more, or less, than diverting, voyeuristic good fun. –Sam Graham

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star WORST MOVIE EVER …TRY AGAIN VH1
Was actually looking foward to this movie when it aired on VH1 …but to my suprise it was HORRIBLE. WORST MOVIE EVER. 1st off the actors looked nothing like the real people. I mean Flex alxander as Michael. wow. the film skipped over a lot a years. What about the “bad” or “dangerous” eras ?? It just seem to focuse on the plastic surgerys , a little on his marriage to lisa marie and somewhat on neverland and the court cases. This film could have been done wayyyyyyyy better . Omg. AND VH1 did this? they should be embrassed. It also put michael in a bad light. The other movie ” the jackson : an american dream” was a hurderd times better and told more of story .this film just kinda bounced around and didn’t explian much of anything. I am hoping that now since Michael passed , that a new and better movie will come out that will explain the last few years of his life and show ALL of his solo carrer. Don’t even waste your time with this film. It’s not even worth renting.

1 Star Horrible
Speaking from the viewpoint of someone who is a Michael Jackson fan, I felt that this movie was horrible. I absolutely love Michael Jackson and I felt that this movie did him no justice whatsoever. The acting was terrible and i felt that it was a mockery rather than a adequate portrayal of MJ. The movie left out so many details of his life. In the movie as they showed Michael’s skin lighten, the makeup that was used on Flex (the actor playing MJ) was just outrageous, It just looked plain ridiculous. Flex looked like a clown and a mime at some points in the film. The movie contained no Mj music, (No “Billie Jean”, “Beat It”, Jackson 5 hits, “Man in the Mirror”) Nothing! I wouldn’t recommend this movie to a can of worms. If you want a better essence of Michael Jackson buy “The Jackson 5: An American Dream” although this movie follows the development of the Jackson 5 as a group it gave a better representation of Michael.

1 Star Total and utter rubbish
Absolute worst rubbish EVER! Please do not waste your money or further demean the name of MJ by watching it.

Have to give it one star to rate it – but it shouldn’t have any!!

1 Star Another tabloid tale
I am interested in historical facts and anything that is Michael Jackson or the Jackson family right now. This is just another tabloid tale as far as I am concerned. You need some solid proof before ranting on about a persons very personal life and habits. I look forward to a straight factual account of the life of Michael Jackson one day. That will be a collector item that will sell, sell, sell. I say to the people who are interested in biographies; don’t waste your time reading dirt written by people who exploit rumors about famous people for their own personal gain. That’s all I have to say.

1 Star Awful!
Although this movie is old, I decided to view it for the first time. It’s not only the worst MJ movies, but it’s also one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It seems like it was filmed in one week. Real MJ fans, do not waste your time and energy. You won’t be missing anything.
